Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fast (CA).
Technical Recruiter
I was contacted by a recruiter about an open position. We had a standard recruiter screen first. After that went well, I had a 30-minute video call with the co-founder, Allison Barr Allen. During the call, I noticed she was multitasking, typing and looking at other windows, and not making much eye contact or showing interest in what I was saying. She barely asked me anything about myself or my background. I got a rejection email a few days later, and it was unclear why since she didn't learn about my qualifications. For future interviews, I'd suggest having interviewers who contribute to a positive candidate experience, as they represent the company.
- What's motivating your job search?
- Can you describe the types of roles you focus on?
- What are your salary expectations?
Senior Technical Recruiter
The whole thing moved really fast and they were cool about my messed up schedule because of vacations and being sick. First, I talked to someone from recruiting, then I met people from the actual business side. I noticed a lot of them mentioned coming from FANG companies, which felt a little much, but they were mostly smart and pretty nice. One person was super chill and asked some behavioral stuff. Another was really intense, grilling me on data points for a totally different area I didn't even know about, and they weren't very friendly, seemed kinda stern. Then there was another interviewer who seemed pretty unprepared, it was more casual, like a chat. They were nice, but the interview wasn't really structured, which is fine, just an observation. It was still useful though. The craziest and worst part was the Zoom call with HR after the last interviews. They said the team liked me and wanted to move forward with references and an offer. I was stoked and told to expect an email about references. Six days later, nothing, so I followed up. That was August 25th. After that, total silence from HR and even the interviewers I'd sent thank you notes to. I even went out of my way to get my references to make more time for them, and still heard nothing back from recruiting, which made me look like a fool. Obviously, if I'd been super keen, I'd have chased them harder. But by then, I was over it and already had another offer I was taking. Plus, this whole 'we'll give you an offer then ghost you' thing was a major red flag. I ended up taking another job and starting fresh, pretty sure I'd been ghosted by incompetent HR. Finally, after hearing zero since August 19th, almost SEVEN WEEKS after they said an offer was coming, I got an email from the original recruiter saying: 'Apologies for the long delay. Due to some changes in our business plans, we have decided to not move forward in our process with your candidacy at this time. We wish you the best of luck in your search and sincerely appreciate your time and consideration in Fast. Best regards'

Recruiter
It started with a 30-minute phone call with the recruiter, and then there was a panel round that lasted 30 minutes with a Director and two team members. Overall, the whole thing took about a week and a half from the first call to getting the offer. Everyone was really professional and nice. My recruiter would get back to me the same day if I reached out. It was a good experience.
- Can you share your background and career aspirations?
- Describe your approach to managing conflict.
- How do you handle team member interactions?
