Applied through LinkedIn and after a few weeks, I got an email to set up a phone screen with a recruiter. The recruiter seemed to think I was a strong candidate with the right background and said she would move me to the next stage. We talked about scheduling for later that week. I didn't hear back, so I messaged the recruiter again about two weeks later, thanking her and asking for an update on the next steps. She never responded, but I did receive a very short, automated rejection email. I found the whole process to be unprofessional, especially considering the level of the position.
- Can you describe your relevant experience?
- What about your background makes you a suitable candidate?
- Could you share some insights from your experience that are relevant to this role?
Customer Service Representative
I found the customer service rep job on Indeed for the Redding location and heard back from the regional office in about a week for a first interview. It was okay, but the interviewer seemed really distracted by a meeting happening nearby since I was interviewed in the lobby. A day or so later, I was told I'd 'get a text' but never did, so I messaged on Indeed about my application status. Someone replied to set up an interview. I was a bit surprised about a second interview for what I think is a $13/hr job, but I agreed. This second interview was supposed to be a phone call, but the person never called. I sent a few follow-up messages saying I was available and near my phone. Still no response. About two weeks later, the same person messaged me on Indeed again to schedule an interview, completely forgetting we had already scheduled one before (I could see on the messages that it was the same person who missed the previous call, but whatever). At this point, I wasn't interested anymore, so I mentioned I had an in-person interview and that they missed the scheduled phone call weeks ago. They responded with, 'I see that x interviewed you in the office.' Honestly, the whole thing felt like a joke, especially with the low pay. It seems like interviewing candidates isn't a top priority for the Redding office.

Service Advocate
First, there was a group interview where they talked about the job, the role, company perks, training, and QA. You should be ready to ask questions. Then, there was an individual interview with two supervisors where they asked behavioral questions. Make sure to have your resume handy. For the behavioral questions, they want to know how you show leadership, initiative, and problem-solving, so be specific. Also, check that your internet connection, video, and audio are working.
- Can you share an instance of dealing with a challenging customer and explain your approach?
- Tell me about a time you displayed leadership.
- Describe a situation where you took the initiative.
Sales Representative
It was pretty strange and not very personal. Started with a 3rd party screening call. Then, the online panel interview, also through a 3rd party agency with a Farmers Manager or rep. The 3rd party interviewer wasn't great, but maybe that was just me. They asked a bunch of stuff about sales, my background, and how I'd handle things. After the panel, they'd pause and either reject you or move you on. My take? It's tough, and you gotta be a sales agent who doesn't care about people to get ahead.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, what's your self-rating as a sales person?
- Between your title and your income, which matters more to you in a job?
- Could you tell me about your past sales experience?
