This was a good interview. I provided detailed responses, but the interviewer preferred concise answers without elaboration. This first interview helped me understand what they were looking for.

This was the worst interview experience ever. I was interviewed by people who could be Sr Test Engineers at best. I thought maybe they wanted to know if I still remembered my basics, so I went with it. The interview went well. One person focused on Manual testing, and the second person asked me questions about automation testing. It was the most basic interview that someone might ask for a new joinee stepping into the testing field for the first time and it lasted for a good 45 minutes. There were no followup questions on management, or real-time problem-solving scenarios. Later, Interviewer #1 became concerned that I have automation experience and felt that I might not be a fit to the company because of the same. I tried explaining him that even though I had automation experience, in my current position, I do handle multiple resources working on both Manual and automation testing, and also my having automation experience will not impend on the kind of testing being carried out in the company. Interviewer #1 also felt that automation might take away most of manual testing jobs. His words, not mine. Later I was told to leave and they would get in touch with me. It's been 2 months, and the official reason given is that the position is on hold, even though I still see ads for this position in Fareportal. Three questions spring to my mind: 1. Why was the position for QA Manager being interviewed by guys who clearly did not have that kind of experience? 2. Why was my automation experience of 4 years been a deciding factor, even though I had a good amount of manual testing experience in my 10+ years of testing. 3. Why weren't there any team handling, management, or High-Level discussion about projects or real-time risks. I would be really glad if someone from the company could answer these.

First, there's a written test. Then, a technical interview which was either easy or dependent on luck since the interviewers weren't very knowledgeable. The third round is with the manager, who focuses on communication skills. Lastly, an HR round to discuss salary – make sure to negotiate well here because it impacts future appraisals. My advice to new hires is to focus on showcasing your talent and work ethic, as these are more important for promotions than attitude.
