So, I went through the interview process at Fanduel, and it was pretty open and thorough. But, I was bummed that even after going through a bunch of stages and doing design tasks, I didn't get any feedback at all. Would've been nice to know where I stood or what I could do better. Still, the process was put together well and gave a good sense of what they're looking for and their vibe.
- Can you walk me through a design project where you had to present a live demo?

First up was a phone interview, and if you pass that, you're given a 5-hour design brief to tackle a UX problem they've set. After that, there's a 3-hour in-person interview. The first hour was with two designers, which felt a bit pointless, honestly. They gave me a lot of negative feedback on work they'd already seen, and it wasn't delivered constructively. Then came a whiteboard challenge and a personality test, which were much better experiences, with the interviewers being more open and friendly. Don't believe the hype about the work environment – the office was silent, and the break areas were empty. It's not the vibe or team I'm looking for, and definitely not what they advertise. After all that, they told me they were actually hiring for a different role than the one advertised, which was annoying after all the prep. It's totally unreasonable to expect people to spend so much time on an application for a job that's not what it seems. I'd really think twice before applying.
- Could you provide a critique of one piece of your previously completed work?
Product Designer
I had an initial screening call with a recruiter from FanDuel. After that, I went through a portfolio review with a product designer and a product design lead. During the review, I presented my project, and they asked me questions about it, along with some behavioral questions.
- What would you change about your project if given the chance?
