First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fandango.
UI Designer
I had a deck interview where I presented two of my design projects. The people interviewing me asked some good questions, and we had a really productive and engaging chat about my design choices, how I approach things, and how I solve problems.
- Could you share how you incorporate accessibility into your design process, particularly for users with varying visual or interactive requirements?
Copywriter
I applied online and then had a quick 20-minute chat with the recruiter. After that, I was invited to go in person. I met with around 5 different people, each for about 20 minutes. The interviews were pretty standard; they asked about my background, what I'm into, and where I see myself going. Then they told me about the job and I got to ask them questions. They mentioned that based on my experience, they thought I'd find the job dull, which worried them. When I left, they gave me a test to do for the copywriter role. I heard back from the recruiter two weeks later via phone, asking me to call them back. I tried calling a few times but couldn't reach them. I guess I didn't get the job, but it would have been nice to get an email at least.
- Could you share your favorite movie?
Director
The interview process started with a recruiter phone screen, then a hiring manager call, and finally in-person interviews. The whole thing took about 3 weeks. It seems like interviews are often scheduled back-to-back with one person at a time these days. Whoever thinks this is a good way to get the best out of a candidate is out of touch. This style of interviewing is particularly challenging when some of the individuals don't have great interviewing skills. It felt like the interview style was more focused on challenging a candidates claims, like trying to trip them up, rather than really getting to know them. I didn't have a good feeling after the interviews as I think they already had someone in mind, so I guess I was one of the unlucky applicants that was put through the paces just so they could say they interviewed a range of people. The recruiter was professional and personable, but the hiring manager never really asked me anything of substance and it was a challenge to try and showcase my skills/experience in the brief pauses offered. If you interview with anyone on the tech (engineering) side and you are not looking for a tech role, be prepared for a dull, dry and somewhat arrogant interview.
- Tell me about yourself.
Director, User Experience
I reached out to an internal recruiter on LinkedIn after seeing a job opening. The recruiter then scheduled a phone screen for me. It was a pretty standard phone screen. After the call, I was told I'd be contacted for an in-person interview. A week went by with no word, so I emailed the recruiter. The next day, I was told again they wanted to move forward with an in-person interview and that someone would contact me soon. I never heard back from anyone at Fandango. I was surprised to have such an amateurish experience with a company that should be competing for top talent.
- Standard phone screen questions were asked.
