It was kind of a mess, honestly. I had 3 Zoom interviews, and every single interviewer was late, like 10-15 minutes late. They were professional though, but seemed distracted and didn't really listen to what I was saying. I had to repeat myself a lot. The weirdest part was that they asked me the same questions in every interview, even though they said they had notes from the previous ones. After all that, the recruiter just went silent. I tried to follow up, but got nothing. Then, two months later, I saw on my job portal dashboard that I didn't get the job.

You can apply through the company's website or other job sites like Indeed, Monster, Snagajob, and LinkedIn. It's also a good idea to contact the hiring/onboarding team at the corporate office and also the branch manager or operations manager at the specific branch you're interested in. Corporate handles the hiring process, but the branch ultimately decides who they hire and how fast. Everyone involved has to agree on the hire and offer. Knowing someone at the branch office is a big plus. The mortgage industry can be a bit insular and cliquey when it comes to hiring, so it often comes down to who you know, even without prior knowledge or experience.

The day before, the recruiter emailed good luck. On interview day, I expected two people, but only one showed up initially because his manager was late. We started with me introducing myself and talking about my background, mentioning my previous experience with major loan companies. Then, he went over the job description, which seemed like a perfect fit given my past work. After he finished, he asked if I had any questions, and I inquired about the file room and mail room duties, which were similar to my previous roles. Things got a bit strange after that as he started asking about situational behavior, handling co-workers, daily problems, and my career aspirations. When the manager finally arrived, she introduced herself and asked about two questions before cutting the interview short due to file room issues. I thanked them and asked for business cards, but didn't receive any. The interview lasted about an hour. I followed up twice. In early June, I heard the position wasn't filled due to a special project, and at the end of June, I was told it was filled by someone they knew.

I found the job opening online and Fairway reached out to me via email fairly quickly to set up an in-person interview. It was a bit odd to just get an email and not a phone call before setting up the interview. I went in and at the end, they mentioned they were still interviewing candidates for the rest of the week and would let me know. I sent a thank-you email that same night. They sent a reply back saying thanks for coming in. And then... nothing. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard back. I understand if they went with someone else, but not following up is really unprofessional, especially since they talked about a family environment. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, whether for a job or a mortgage.
