The interview process was pretty standard, but they didn't follow up about whether they were declining or offering a position. When I asked about what they were doing to address teacher burnout, they talked about some staff activities and a movie outing, which I felt didn't really answer the question. They also said that all edtech use had to go through admin, which seemed like a clear difference from private schools.

It was a really simple interview process. I talked to HR first, and then a few other key people like the department director and someone who used to have my job. They also sat in on the interviews. After that, I had a second interview with the headmaster and another senior leader. They asked me about my timing and why I wanted this job. I got the offer as I was leaving. It was a good experience!

I had multiple phone interviews and then a skype interview. I got really good feedback on the phone calls, and they even did background checks and talked to my references. The skype call felt like a formality since they were ready to hire me, but then they saw I was African American and their attitude changed completely. It was shocking to experience that kind of racism, especially living in Orange County where I haven't faced that before.

Had a Zoom meeting with the Head Director and maybe an assistant. They asked me some specific questions about intervention, which was a bit unexpected since I applied for a classroom teacher role. Turns out, they were actually interviewing me for the interventionist position.

  • What's your process for identifying students who require intervention?
  • Describe what your classroom would look like if we were to observe it.
