Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Factorial.
Engineering Manager
I appreciated the chance to interview with Factorial, but the whole process felt pretty disorganized. Several calls got cancelled last minute with no explanation. When I got to the advanced stage, they invited me to the office, but the interview there wasn't really planned out or organized. The selection criteria felt subjective; they even admitted it during our chats. I also noticed a lack of prep and professionalism, even from the senior folks. The whole time, the main thing they seemed to care about was revenue, with most talks focused on money instead of the company's bigger picture or values. I think they could improve how they communicate, organize things, and handle the candidate experience.
- Could you share the revenue figures for your previous company?
Engineering Manager
I had a good time interviewing at Factorial. My recruiter had to follow up on my task submission, and there were some scheduling issues, but it was a good process overall. It started with a recruiter screen, then I talked to the Engineering Director who would have been my manager. That was a great conversation, very insightful and respectful. After that, I got a take-home task: create a basic e-commerce site with frontend and backend, dealing with dynamic product constraints. The task was big but they said it didn't need to be fully done, leaving room for personal choices and trade-offs that we'd discuss later. It was nice that it wasn't a Leetcode problem but allowed me to show practical thinking and architecture skills. The technical review was also excellent – we talked through my code and how I'd handle new constraints, feeling more like a design session. Finally, I met with the CTO, Ilia, who was a thoughtful interviewer. Talking to the team was great too. I got an offer, but decided to decline because the salary wasn't what I expected. I'd still recommend Factorial because the people are smart, the process is meaningful, and engineers seem valued.
- How would you adjust the design given new constraints?
- Develop a custom e-commerce platform for bicycles.
Engineering Manager
So, I went through this company's interview process, which was supposed to be three steps according to their LinkedIn and stuff. It all seemed to be going well, with good feedback and even a VP looking forward to me joining. But then, out of nowhere, the recruiter threw in another interview with a director that wasn't part of the plan (!). This last-minute thing felt rushed, went over time, and I couldn't really get into it. Even though things were looking positive before, everything changed after that meeting. When I asked why, they gave me some unclear and conflicting reasons, totally contradicting what they said before. Also, it seemed like they were confused about the role itself, with comments suggesting the responsibilities weren't clear. On top of that, it felt like a high-pressure place with not much focus on the employees, so the whole hiring process just seemed disorganized and all over the place.
