First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Exxon.
Software Engineer
The interview process heavily relied on the STAR method, focusing on questions about your past experiences. They also asked questions like 'how do you deal with a difficult team mate?'
- What's your approach to handling a challenging team member?
- Can you share an experience of dealing with a difficult person on your team?
- Describe a scenario involving a tough teammate and your resolution.
Coordinator
The first step was a phone screen, which included standard pre-screening questions. They asked how I found out about the position, my reasons for seeking new employment, and details about my past work. They also discussed what would make me a good candidate and explained the job's details.
- Could you share how you learned about this opportunity?
- What's prompting your job search at this time?
- Please describe your prior work experience.
Machinery Technician
The interview process was pretty interesting and involved a lot of technical questions. On top of that, they give you a better idea of what your day-to-day job would entail, so candidates can get a general understanding of their daily tasks. It's a really good starting job, and the scope of work is quite interesting, though they really should open up more opportunities for younger candidates.
- What are you looking for in terms of your future?
Engineering Intern
It was a pretty chill interview, actually. You get to talk to an alum, so it felt really relatable. It's easy to set up if you meet them at a career fair (definitely talk to them there, worth the wait). Overall, I'd recommend interviewing with Exxon. They're looking for more than just a summer intern; they want you to do a co-op first, then the internship, so it's about a 6-month commitment.
- Can you tell me about any specific projects you've worked on that are relevant to this role?
