I went through 5 interviews in total. 2 were coding interviews and 3 were general knowledge. None of them were too hard, and I answered all the questions that had a right answer correctly. About a week after I finished the interviews, the recruiter reached out. They asked me to keep my schedule open the next day for 'updates' about my application. Almost 2 hours after the scheduled time, and after I tried following up by email multiple times, I found their number from the start of the process and called. They let it go to voicemail and then called me back to say I wasn't a strong enough candidate but wouldn't give any feedback on how I could improve. After I mentioned that this information could have just been emailed and didn't require blocking out my afternoon, they hung up on me. If Kirsten from ExtraHop contacts you, be careful. I'm not sure what's going on, but this is a terrible way to treat applicants. I've never felt so disrespected by a company.

First, I had a zoom call with a recruiter for a basic screening. They asked me what I knew about the company and about my career aspirations. Then, I spoke with the hiring manager. They asked me two questions: 'what are TCP and UDP?' and 'tell me about a time you dealt with an angry customer.' The final stage was a technical assessment where I was asked questions about command line, SQL, NAT, TSL/SSL, TCP/UDP, the OSI model, real-life network issue resolution (like latency or website connection problems), and DNS. I studied a lot for this part; it was like a final exam because there's so much information. There were about 10-15 questions in this round. Good luck!

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain TCP and UDP, and also describe a situation where you handled an upset customer?
  • The third contact was a technical assessment with questions related to: General command line /SQL information, NAT, TSL/ SSL, TCP/UDP, full OSI model layers, real life scenarios about how to resolve network issues (latency issues, connecting to websites), &DNS.

The process was pretty informative starting from the Talent Acquisition Lead all the way to the hiring manager. I felt comfortable with everyone I interviewed with. It only took about 2 weeks and 4 interviews until I got the job offer. The company is currently going through some changes and everyone was really open about it even before I asked. The first two people I interviewed with told me at the end that they wanted me to advance to the next stage, which was great because I didn't have to wait around to find out. I wish more companies were as transparent during their hiring process.

So first I chatted with a recruiter on the phone. Then, the recruiter set up a Zoom call a few days later with one of the hiring managers. After that, I had a third round, also on Zoom, with two more hiring managers and an engineer, all back-to-back from about 2pm to 4:45pm. It sounds like a lot, but it was actually fine. The whole thing was pretty low-stress because everyone was easy to talk to. The interviews felt really relaxed and conversational. They asked a mix of basic tech questions and soft skill stuff to see how I'd handle customer service. The whole process wrapped up in about 3 weeks, and they were really on top of communication and followed through on their promises. Glad I got the offer!

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you explain the difference between DNS and DHCP, and how would you troubleshoot a customer who can't connect to the internet?
