I rejected the job offer during the interview process because it seemed shady. The job posting and the first interview made it sound like I'd be helping with marketing and sales and getting paid hourly. But the second interview, which was in person, told a different story. They said they wanted to move me quickly into training for an "executive manager" position with a potential $150k salary within a year. The catch? I'd be paid entirely by commission, with no benefits, and work six days a week, eight hours a day. My success and how fast I moved up would depend on my "performance." My job would be to sell devices and extras to people applying for a Lifeline phone plan, many of whom are struggling financially. The interview questions weren't too tough, but they started leaning towards a "grindset" mentality as we talked more.
- What's more important: money, growth, or fun?
- Why does everyone start at an entry-level position here, no matter their background?
Assistant Manager
The interview process was pretty straightforward, but after talking with the team, the role seemed a bit different than advertised. They framed it as an event-based marketing strategy job, but it felt more like a sales role. Also, their compensation offer wasn't great, and they couldn't give more details when I asked.
- Could you introduce yourself and share your career aspirations?
- What are your long-term career objectives?
Event Assistant
It was straightforward, but be aware that it's a classic setup where you work as a lackey until you become a manager. The pay offer is $1 less than California's Minimum Law, which is $15. So be aware of that too, it's kinda weird, ya know? It's a dollar less than what they're supposed to pay you.
- Were there any follow-up questions?
- Were there any clarifications needed?
Marketing
The interview was super casual and felt like a conversation. They really made an effort to get to know me, my interests, and what drives me. Everyone was really nice and friendly, which made it seem like a great place to work.
- What is your primary motivation?
- Could you share some information about yourself?
- How does working here fit with your career aspirations?
