Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Expel.
Senior Software Engineer
Had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Everyone I interacted with, from the recruiter to the hiring team and interviewers, was polite, professional, and accommodating. The interview structure was pretty standard for the tech industry, with about 6 interviews spread over roughly 3 weeks. What really stood out was how transparent everyone was. My tougher questions got honest answers, and the interviewers seemed genuinely invested in making sure it was a good fit for me, not just the company. Instead of a typical sales pitch, it felt more like intellectual conversations with good people to see if we could help each other out. It was really refreshing.

Software Development Engineer Intern
Got an email to set up a phone screen. They asked me to introduce myself and then answer some general behavioral questions. I got rejected the next day. I guess my answers weren't good enough.
- Can you introduce yourself and talk about your previous experience?
- How have you handled conflict in a work setting?
Software Engineer
The interview process was pretty great, if a bit long. There were a total of 6 interviews spread over 2 weeks. First, a recruiter phone screen to check for cultural fit. Second, an interview with the hiring manager for culture and tech questions, to see if your values align with the team. Third, a tech interview structured as a pair programming exercise with 2 developers, where you drive the code structure even if you don't know the language. If you pass these, you move to a half-day of 3 interviews with the team. Fourth, a culture interview with engineers to gauge if you'd enjoy working together. Fifth, an interview delving into your past technical work on your resume and GitHub, asking specific and detailed questions about your expertise. Sixth, a quality assurance interview focused on maintaining quality code. Overall, it was thorough but fun, and the recruiter kept great communication.
