Since there's no HR department, the hiring manager can structure the interview process. It's common to get hired through connections with existing employees. They prioritize personality and attitude over skills, believing they can develop talent from within. This approach suits those seeking job stability over high pay. Even underperformers can have a long tenure. Don't be surprised by unexpected questions; they're assessing your reactions. They highly value their culture, so demonstrating knowledge of their mission and values is key. Hiring decisions take 3-4 weeks for senior management. Offers are extended via email with a 5-day acceptance window. Salary negotiation is discouraged initially, as they believe you need to prove yourself before deserving a raise. While top performers can see 30% annual raises, typical raises are 6-8%.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I went through three rounds of interviews with different teams, two of which were with management, and one with the team I'd be joining. They asked me some behavioral questions and standard get-to-know-you questions. The technical part involved general PC knowledge and scripting in Perl and SQL. For SQL, the questions ranged from simple two-line queries to complex 60-line statements that required joining tables, using aliases, and fulfilling specific category requests based on sample or pseudo data.

Behavioral Technical

The interview process was lengthy and inflexible. I interviewed for two different roles at this company, progressing through different stages for each. The company seems to have a rigid, old-fashioned culture. I had a health condition that made taking an assessment difficult. This requirement wasn't communicated before my phone interview, but was brought up on the call. I asked to reschedule the assessment, but they insisted I do it right then. If you have other options, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. I'm not sure how they expect to attract talent in this market, especially with their below-market pay. They need to modernize if they want to avoid significant recruiting challenges.
