So I talked to an Expedia manager at my university's career fair and gave him my resume. After a few weeks, he emailed me to set up a phone interview. The interview was short, about 15-20 minutes, mainly covering my resume and a 'how would you test a vending machine' question to gauge my testing knowledge. He mentioned they had 4 openings. A week later, I got a call about an in-person interview. Setting it up took about 3 weeks due to scheduling conflicts. The in-person interview was a full day with 6 different people, including a Sr. Test Lead, Software Development Director, Engineering Manager, Test Manager, Test Engineer I, and Software Engineer II. Everyone was really nice, even HR. The Software Dev II asked about my resume and had Java technical questions, which I struggled with since I know more C. He also asked me to design a Tic-Tac-Toe game. The Test Manager and Test Engineer I asked more testing and some technical questions about linked lists. The Engineering Manager focused on testing questions. The Software Dev Director didn't ask technical questions but talked about my resume, my R&D background, and his desire for a more Google-like team with more full-time staff. The Sr. Test Lead also asked technical questions. Overall, it was heavy on technical questions, and probably tough for someone without a CS/Software Engineering background, like me with my Electrical Engineering undergrad and Biomedical Masters. I wasn't super interested because I already had a better offer. The next day, they emailed saying they were moving on with someone else, which I expected after the technical parts didn't go well. It was a good experience though; I'd advise preparing well technically, especially knowing Java and JUnit.

Technical Coding

I applied through a job site for a role in Gurgaon, India, and a recruiter contacted me. I had two technical phone interviews. After the second one, the recruiter mentioned that the next stage would be an in-person interview and that they would let me know the date. However, it's been three weeks with no update, so I emailed for information, but got no response. I eventually called, and they told me they hired someone locally. The recruiter lacked basic communication skills, not even replying to emails. Expedia is a good brand, and candidates put a lot of effort into preparing for interviews. At least candidates deserve respect for their preparation.

Technical Behavioral Presentation

So, there were 2 phone interviews, both were technical. Then, 5 interviews happened onsite. Two of these were with managers where we talked about test strategies, test design, finding testable areas, and bug triage. Another 2 were technical interviews, covering data structures and algorithms. The last one was with the engineering director, discussing my current role, and my thoughts on test automation and performance testing.
