Evite Interview Questions
& Process

I was first contacted by an outside recruiter working for Evite. Our initial call went well because I seemed like a good fit with my 5 years of DT2 experience and over 10 years of PM and product organization experience. They suggested I tweak my resume to highlight relevant experience. Then I spoke with their internal HR rep, and that was also a good chat. After that, I was scheduled to meet with their President/CPO/CMO, which might raise some eyebrows. She was a bit late to our 30-minute call and spent the last few minutes arranging a food delivery for her lunch meeting right after. Evite's HR and the recruiter said I'd hear back within the week, but after weeks of following up, I got no response. I looked into the President and her EVP of Product and saw they seem to really prioritize hiring women in a certain age group. About four months after my interview, they hired someone with about 8 years less experience than me, who is a woman in that age group. I never even got a rejection email.

The phone screen was pretty typical, just a chat to get to know me and my skills, and time for me to ask questions about the design team and the company. Then I had to do an assignment where I had to redesign a chat interface for Evite, using any tools I wanted. I spent about 5 hours on it and emailed it in. They said the design team would review it and I'd hear back within a week. I didn't hear back after two weeks, so I followed up via email but still no response. It's fine if I'm not a good fit, but it's common courtesy to at least respond. This felt very unprofessional and doesn't speak well of management.

The onsite interview was pretty chill, answered some basic questions on data warehousing, Python, and scripting. The vibe felt a bit political though. The engineer who writes python scripts was questioning my hire due to job security concerns, and the CTO seemed to be checking the validity of their BI engineer/manager's stack and future plans (unhappy with the current Amazon stack, wanted to move to Google stack). They said they'd get back within a week, but after a polite follow-up, I never heard back. Overall, it felt like a somewhat political atmosphere for a startup, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I met with the executive team and some key people. It was pretty informal but involved a lot of problem-solving. There were several rounds with different individuals, and they really focused on quantitative skills, logic, and thinking quickly under pressure. It seems like there was a lot of competition for this role. I spoke with people from all departments – product, tech, business development, finance, and others.
