My interview with Evernote was memorable, thoughtful, and efficient, though a bit unconventional since I wasn't a traditional applicant and it was for a contract role. After I talked to a senior leader there and showed my passion for Evernote, he sent my resume and portfolio to recruiting. The next day, I got an email from the recruiter to set up a phone screen. The recruiter call was really positive and fun. She was personable, encouraging, and just as excited about Evernote as I was. Because of the good vibe, the recruiter set up my next interview with a senior design leader. That went well too, and we went deeper into my portfolio and past work. It felt more like a chat than an interview, which was great. A few days later, the recruiter emailed to say my experience wasn't the right fit for the contract role, even though they liked our talks. Despite the rejection, I enjoyed learning about the team. Two weeks later, the recruiter reached out again about a new contractor role that might be a better match. We set up a 1:1 with the hiring manager that same day. We had a straightforward portfolio review and a good chat about my design experience and growth. The next day, the recruiter called to check in after the 1:1 and said the team wanted to offer me the job. I was thrilled.

I applied online, then did a skype interview, followed by an in person interview where I had to present my portfolio. The panel for the in person interview, which included someone I'd already talked to, seemed uninterested and didn't pay attention to the discussion. Later on, I got negative feedback about how the interview went.
