First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EvenUp.
Strategic Accounts Director
I applied online and a recruiter got in touch for an initial phone screen. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager for what was supposed to be a 30-minute chat, but it felt too short to really discuss the role and my skills. It turned out I was right, as there wasn't much time for me to ask my own questions before the interviewer cut me off mid-sentence to move to their next meeting, without clarifying next steps. I followed up with both the recruiter and hiring manager, but it's been over a week with no response or rejection, which is strange. It's not a great experience, and based on other reviews, it seems like I might have avoided a bad situation.

Account Manager
The recruiter was nice and responsive, and they clearly explained the company mission and growth. However, the job itself felt a bit unclear during the chat. Even though the title is Account Manager, a lot of the talk was about outbound prospecting, hunting, urgency, and how fast deals close. It was hard to really get how this role is different from a standard sales or AE role, especially concerning ownership, the customer journey, and what's expected for new business versus growing existing accounts. There were also unanswered questions about pay, how quotas would be set, and what the key performance indicators would be, since they seem to be still figuring out the Account Management team. This might be good for people okay with some uncertainty and overlapping duties, but if you want a more defined account management or expansion role, you might need to ask more questions early on.

Senior Machine Learning Engineer
Applied for the Senior AI Engineer role and went through a lengthy and somewhat chaotic interview process. It was supposed to be six rounds, but they even asked for a seventh after I finished everything. Honestly, I'd say skip interviewing with this company; your time is probably better spent elsewhere. You could end up in 8+ interviews and they still might say they're not interested. They don't seem to respect your time or take hiring seriously. You can stop the interviews whenever you want. The process started with a recruiter call, and the recruiter was great – professional and kept me in the loop the whole time. Then came an initial assessment with two timed coding problems and 20 multiple-choice questions, which they advertised as AI/ML algorithm stuff. Turns out, they were just standard Leetcode-style coding problems and multiple-choice questions about data. The first coding problem was easy, but the second one would take ages to code, way more than the 20 minutes they gave. After that was a hiring manager interview, which was a pretty standard chat about my experience and basic ML knowledge. It felt fair. Then came the Applied ML interview. The coding part was again framed as an ML/AI challenge, but it wasn't really related to either. They dismissed my key clarifying questions, saying they weren't important, which made it feel unnecessarily difficult. The walkthrough part was a bit more relevant, but the interviewer seemed new and wasn't open to solutions outside their specific expectations. Communication was tough. Later rounds involved multiple interviews that just rehashed earlier questions about ML concepts and my experience. They even missed two scheduled interviews and had to reschedule them later. These later interviews didn't add much new information. Then there was a VP interview where the same topics came up again, plus some weird 'trick' questions where they asked for definitions of terms that aren't actually standard in ML, even though the concept itself exists under a different name. After six rounds, they said they wanted a seventh interview, but then suddenly decided not to proceed, blaming the timed coding test from the very first round. This was despite everything else going well. They even tried to say I didn't finish the code in the third interview, which wasn't true – it was just a tiny one-character error because they brushed off my clarifying questions. So, the whole process felt super long and didn't really match the advertised AI/ML focus. Lots of interviews were repetitive, and the technical part focused more on general algorithm challenges than actual applied ML engineering. The interviewers didn't seem to know much about ML beyond the questions they asked, and some questions were like 20-30 years out of date! It’s a shame for a senior technical role. They offer equity to make up for a lower salary, which feels like a gamble given how they run their hiring. It made me really doubt the company's future. Pros: Professional recruiter, structured schedule, good communication at first. Cons: Way too many interviews, questions repeated, coding tests weren't relevant, they missed meetings, unclear and inconsistent technical focus, and the interviewers during key coding parts were really bad.
- Can you tell me about your experience in relation to this role?
- What is your understanding of basic Machine Learning concepts?
- Could you solve these Leetcode-style string manipulation problems?
Integration Specialist
The interview process was pretty straightforward and organized. First, there was a quick screening call with the recruiter where we talked about my background, if I met the basic requirements, and what the role is generally about. Then, I had a video interview with the hiring manager where we discussed how I'd fit with the team, what the job involves, and what success looks like. Finally, I had another video chat with someone on the team who asked more in-depth questions about my technical skills and what the daily work is like. The whole thing felt logical, with no unexpected parts, and they kept me updated between steps. The interviewers were professional and respected my time. It felt like a fair process, not too long, and not designed to trick me.
