Sales Development Representative
I got this interview through a referral. First, I had a quick chat with a sales manager about my background and the job. Then, there was a 3-hour in-person interview at their office with different team members. This part included a role-play. The in-person part was pretty straightforward, except for the situational questions asking about my past experiences. They asked questions like, 'Tell me about a time ____ happened and how did you react?'. For an entry-level role, the questions felt like a lot. If you don't have a specific example, they don't seem to like it. The whole process was smooth overall, but I got mixed signals about what was next after the in-person. The recruiter said I'd hear back the next day, which seemed quick but was cool since I had other offers. The recruiter actually followed up a day later than expected to talk about 'next steps,' which I thought was good news. But it turned out to be a rejection call. They immediately gave me unsolicited negative feedback. In the future, I'd suggest recruiters not use such positive language when setting up calls about next steps, because it made for an awkward and unwelcome conversation.
- Can you share an instance where plans did not go as expected and describe your reaction?
- Describe a situation where something occurred and how you responded.
Sales Development Representative
I got to the final interview stage, and everyone I met was really nice and easy to chat with. But in the last round, there was a role-play exercise. The role-play itself was fine, but the person I did it with made me mess up because they were super sarcastic and jokey the whole time. It felt like I was being hit on at a bar instead of interviewed for a job I wanted. This person didn't seem to take my interview seriously. Other than that one person, all my other interactions were great, and I felt like I'd enjoy working with them.
- What motivates you to pursue a career in sales?
Sales Development Representative
First, there was a screening phone call. After that, I had an in-person interview with about 5 people, all of whom were pretty high up in the company. It wasn't intimidating though, they were all really easy to talk to. A major focus was making sure I was a competitive person, since it's a sales job with commission.
- Can you tell me about a time you lost?
- Do you consider yourself competitive?
