It's a long and multi-layered interview process, which is good for the company 'cause it weeds out those who may not stay or work out longterm. First, I had a phone screening with a recruiter. Then, about a week later, I had a phone interview with the department head. After that, I went in person to the office for about 3 hours. This included 30-minute sessions with 5 different people from inside and outside the department. Finally, I had one more follow-up phone screening with the recruiter, and then I got hired. The whole thing took a little less than a month.

I applied online with a strong cover letter, highlighting my qualifications for the Eventbrite role, which I was very enthusiastic about after my research. The first step was an online exam covering basic math, problem-solving, and handling real-life customer scenarios, which I felt went well. Next, I had a phone interview. Unfortunately, the interviewer seemed disengaged from the start and lacked enthusiasm, which was unusual for me. Despite this, I remained positive and friendly throughout the interview, which included a mock customer service call. I made a small error initially, which was explained. After this, I was told I'd be contacted for an in-person interview. However, a few days later, I received an email stating I lacked the required experience, which was confusing given my background. I later suspected this might be related to the company's lack of diversity, as noted on their blog. I tried to inquire about what I was missing for future reference, but received no response. It felt like my name and perceived ethnicity impacted my chances.

They gave me some questions to answer before the phone interview. Then, I had a phone interview. After that, I had a one-on-one interview on-site. It was supposed to be with the HR director, VP of Customer Experience, and the Customer Support team, but the support team was busy, so I didn't end up meeting them. It felt a bit unprofessional to cancel at the last minute. The office was open, and it seemed like a typical tech company, not as exciting as Facebook or Google, but it looked like a positive work culture and environment.
