First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Development Communications Manager
It started with a phone screen, and then I went in for an in-person panel interview. The panel included the head of marketing, the hiring manager, and some of my potential colleagues. After the interview and a reference check, they extended an offer. The whole process was really smooth and straightforward.
- Can you introduce yourself and summarize your work experience?
- What kind of environment are you hoping to work in?
Strategic Communications
Overall, it was an enjoyable interview experience. The interviewers were very nice and genuinely interested in learning more about me. The questions they asked made it easy for me to speak openly and comfortably. It went so well that I received a job offer the very next day, and I was thrilled with the positive outcome. It was truly one of the best interviews I've ever had.
- What makes you want to work for the ELCA?
SharePoint Developer
The whole thing took about 3 weeks, working with the staffing agency. After two phone interviews and one and a half in-person ones, I got quick feedback. Overall, it was not a great experience because the interviews could have been way smoother. They really seemed interested at first. For the last interview, I had to do a skills test and meet the Director of IT. But, I bombed the test and the IT Manager basically kicked me out without even a meeting with the Director or any follow-up. Seriously the worst interview ever.
- Can you tell me about your SharePoint experience?
- I mentioned my VB.net skills were pretty basic but I was eager to learn more during the initial phone call.
- He assured me it was totally fine and even good that I was open to learning the language.
Administrative Assistant
I saw the job on the ELCA careers page and sent in my application online. About six weeks later, they emailed me back asking me to come in for an interview. They paid for my flight to Chicago, and I met with the team and an HR person for about 90 minutes. They called me a few days later with a job offer!
- Can you describe yourself using just three words?
