Technical Implementation Consultant
I sent in my application online and a recruiter from HR got in touch to set up a phone call. That first call was basically about my resume and learning about the company. Then, a few days later, I had another phone interview with a Technical Lead in NY. This one had one straightforward SQL question. The lead also asked if I could show him any web projects I'd done for school. I said I'd have to check, and he said it wasn't a big deal if I couldn't. A few days after that, they invited me for an in-person interview. This part was a bit strange. I went in the following week and met with a Project Manager and someone from the TIC team. The TIC person asked me three basic questions: how to define a function in Python, what HTML tags do, and to name three SQL commands with their functions. The Project Manager seemed really focused on why I wanted the job and my technical background from college. I started to think he might have a problem with my experience, and then he straight up said he thought I was overqualified. I thought this was weird because the job posting required a Bachelor's in CS, which I have, and a Master's was a plus. The interview wrapped up after about 20 minutes. A few days later, the initial HR recruiter contacted me again. She wanted my thoughts on the interview. I told her about the Project Manager saying I was overqualified and my feeling that he might think I'd leave quickly. She confirmed that was exactly why she was calling. She said everyone else really liked me and the Project Manager was the only one hesitant. I explained my strong interest in the job and that I had no plans to leave soon. She mentioned she'd discuss it with the Project Manager and get back to me. A few days later, I was informed the position had been filled. Since then, I've seen two more TIC roles open up, though I'm not sure if it's due to company growth or people leaving. I just found it really odd that their 'required' experience could lead to concerns about someone leaving when there are so many other reasons why a person might need to leave a job quickly.
- How would you describe the process of defining a function in Python?
- Can you explain the purpose of tags in HTML?
- Could you list three SQL commands and describe their functions?
Implementation Consultant
We had a 15 minute phone call, then another 15 minute phone call. After that, there was a 2 hour onsite interview. You'll meet at least 3 people there, but they won't interview you at the same time. We'll ask you when you're ready to start. They want to know why you're interested in etq. Also, if you make too much money, you might not get hired. And you need to have a valid visa or be a US citizen to be considered. How well you communicate is super important. It's pretty easy and friendly, and the questions are open-ended.
- What is your visa or citizenship status?
- Tell me about your education.
- Are you willing to travel for work about half the year?
BI Engineer
The recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn. After that, I went through four interviews with four different people from the company. I really enjoyed talking to everyone and learning about the company. They all seemed great and I really wanted the job. I did not get an offer, but the recruiter called me to explain their reasoning instead of just ghosting me, which I appreciated. It was bittersweet but I appreciated the communication. The recruiter kept me informed throughout the whole process and answered all my questions. She was great. From what I understand about ETQ, I would highly recommend them even though I didn't get the job. They handled everything professionally and if you have the opportunity to interview, you should take it.
- What's making you want to leave your present job?
Senior Software Engineer
4 rounds - first a 30 minute chat with the director of engineering about my background and experience. Then a 1 hour backend skills session with some live coding challenges, they weren't too tough. Next, a 1 hour front end skills interview where they'll ask a lot about Angular. Lastly, a 1 hour architecture session where they asked specific questions about systems design.
- What is your experience with Angular?
- Can you explain multi-tenant vs single tenant architecture?
- Tell me about system architecture.
