First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Equity LifeStyle Properties.
Learning & Development Specialist
It began with a phone screen with the in-house recruiter; it was detailed and gave me lots of info. After that, I moved on to an online panel interview which felt pretty chill and it was cool to quickly talk to people on the team. The recruiter was helpful in guiding me, but then sadly ghosted me when I wasn't selected.

Property Manager
A good interview process usually has a few set steps, like an initial screening, then a couple of deeper interviews with people on the team. It's all about seeing if you're qualified and if you'd fit in, but also making it a good experience for you with clear communication.
- Can you describe your strengths?
- What about your weaknesses?
- Can you talk about your past work experience?
Staff Accountant
As a staff accountant, you'll be responsible for preparing general ledger entries, maintaining records, and reconciling accounts. You'll also handle payments by accruing expenses, assigning account numbers, requesting disbursements, and reconciling accounts. We'll look to you to develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current ones and recommending changes. You'll answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data. We also need support for mergers and acquisitions by reviewing financial information, converting data to the general ledger system, and gathering supplementary information for financial statements. Maintaining confidentiality is key to protecting the organization's value. We encourage you to update your knowledge through educational opportunities, professional publications, networking, and professional organizations. Your goal is to accomplish accounting and organizational missions by completing related results as needed.
- What is your reason for leaving your current employment?
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?
Analyst
The process had a phone screen, Zoom interview, in-person interview, and an Excel test. This happened over 2 months. After the in-person, I was told I was a finalist and asked about my availability the next week for a second in-person interview and a take-home assignment. Then, radio silence. I sent a polite email asking for an update over the next several weeks, but still no communication. It seems ELS either wrongly identified me as a finalist or the company decided to go with someone else. I know it's common for companies and candidates to ghost each other now. But telling a candidate they are a finalist and outlining the final steps, then going dark, is bad practice. If TA/HR had just sent a simple email saying priorities changed, I would have rated the experience neutrally and moved on. ELS: please be courteous and provide certainty by closing the communication loop with your candidates.
- Have many questions ready for the interviewer to keep the discussion flowing.
