Data Scientist Intern
The interview process was pretty simple. A recruiter called me first for some basic behavioral questions. Then, I was invited to a final round where 3 people from the team interviewed me together. I got the offer two days after that.
- Tell me about standard Machine Learning concepts.
- Can you solve this LeetCode easy/medium problem?
- What are your thoughts on product sense, specifically regarding AB testing?
Data Scientist Intern
The interview process went pretty smoothly. Initially, I had a recruiter call. Following that, I advanced to the final round, which was an hour-long session with three team members. The interview began with machine learning questions and discussions about my past internship experiences. Then, we transitioned into a coding segment, which involved solving one easy LeetCode problem and one easy SQL problem, both of which I completed quickly. As there was still time left, I was asked some open-ended questions. I felt I didn't do my best on those, but overall, I think I performed adequately. It took about a month to receive feedback, and I was ultimately not selected. I thought I had done well, but it seems I didn't quite meet expectations.
- Could you tell me about Machine Learning concepts?
- Describe your previous internship experiences.
- Solve a LeetCode easy problem.
Lead Data Scientist
It was a good panel interview but the HR experience was bad. The interview process itself was really nice, they made me feel comfortable, and the whole team was there. The questions were based on my past projects and a case study. The panel was super nice, but the HR really messed things up with the offer. In the last interview, the panel said they were looking forward to speaking again, which felt really positive. The next day, a new HR called me to ask for my salary expectations. I was surprised and asked them to give me a tentative offer first, saying I was open to discussion. But she insisted on getting my current and expected salary figures. I shared my expectations within a day, and then got an automated rejection email. This confused me. I checked with the HR, and she said my expectations were too high. I repeated that I wanted to know their offer first and was open to discussing it. Then she gave an offer that was only about 10% more than my current salary, so I said no. She then mentioned another role in a different division with a higher budget and asked if I wanted to talk to the director. I agreed. I had a 1-hour conversation with the director. After the interview, I heard nothing from the HR. After waiting for 2 weeks, I emailed her about the outcome. I got a template response: 'We are sorry to say we wont be proceeding with your candidature.' The HR doesn't seem to understand that I've been engaged with the company for 2 months, spent 10 days on a complex case study while working full-time, and did well in 3 technical interviews. To not get an update and face silence and abrupt rejections is really disappointing. This is part of the HR's job, and it reflects poorly on the company's professionalism. If salary was an issue, it should have been discussed at the beginning. Otherwise, one would expect a higher budget for skills like Deep Learning and AI. I used to think highly of Epsilon, but this experience has made me reconsider.
- You were given a case study to solve using LSTM, with a 10-day deadline.
- Following the review of your case study solution, you were brought back for a follow-up round to discuss your approach and methodology in depth.
- Some technical questions were posed regarding the functioning of LSTM Gates.
