Software Engineer
So, I had a recruiter call me first. Then, a 30-minute online interview was set up. But the interviewer totally missed it – guess I was forgotten! I tried reaching the recruiter during that time, but after 15 minutes, I just left and asked to reschedule. It took a few days of calling and emailing before the recruiter finally got back, apologizing and sending a new invite. I followed up right away. But then, over a week later, past my original dates, still no response. I don't think whatever's going on internally excuses wasting a candidate's time like this.
- Any initial screening questions for the phone call?
Intern
I had an initial phone call with the hiring manager for the DoD SkillBridge Internship program, and it went well; she seemed to want to move forward with the next steps. However, after following up twice, I was told the next week that she was leaving Epirius and I'd need to work with someone else. I tried reaching out to the new contact multiple times through various channels, but never got a response back from anyone at Epirus. It was pretty odd, especially since the internship is unpaid and only benefits the employer. My Air Force background is in the same field Epirus focuses on, so I don't think it was a skill issue. I was hoping for a clear answer about starting, not just to be ghosted by a company connected to the DoD. Just a weird communication failure.
- Tell me about your past experience using your previous platform in the Air Force.
Systems Engineer
I had a call with HR first, then a call with the hiring manager to talk about the job and see if I'd be a good fit for the role and the company. It was a pretty typical startup interview process. I had the hiring manager call scheduled, but I told them the day before I couldn't go on with the process anymore. They didn't email back to say they got my message or cancel the meeting formally. I showed up to the call the next day on time to tell the hiring manager in person, but they were either late or already knew. I waited on the call alone for 20 minutes and then left. It's like, if I can take the time to email you why I'm leaving, you could at least show me the same respect for my time by sending a meeting cancellation to let me know, right? Am I just a person or some trash you can throw away? It could have been a quick and polite chat, but this lack of professionalism really shocked me.
- Can you tell me what you know about Epirus?
Product Owner
My interview experience happened all within a month. It started with an online application, followed by a phone call with HR. Then, I had an interview with the Hiring Manager, and finally, an interview with the team. The whole process felt pretty simple and quick. Most of the people I met were really nice, though there were a couple who were a bit rigid. It also seemed like the team wasn't the most diverse. HR was great at keeping me updated throughout. My only real issue was not getting any feedback on why I didn't get the job. After going through three rounds, I would have expected at least some constructive feedback instead of just a rejection. I also think the third round would have been better as a panel interview instead of spending two hours talking to five different people individually, answering the same questions.
- Why did you choose to apply to Epirus?
- Could you describe a past project where you utilized either the Agile or Waterfall methodology?
