First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Epic.
Technical Solutions Engineer
The interview started with a 3-4 hour skills assessment. It had two parts with timed math and logic questions. The third part involved learning M (MUMPS), which wasn't too hard if you've had some programming classes; the toughest part was the leet code section. If you did well, you'd move to a ~3 hour final superday interview. The first two rounds were informational, so just be ready with questions. The third round was a case study with a list of daily tasks; you had to explain how you'd prioritize them and then answer 'what if' questions designed to challenge you. Having a prioritization framework and sticking to it is key, even when new things pop up. The fourth round was with HR, very conversational, focusing on 'Why Epic' and your choice of major/school.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Epic?
- What motivated your choice of school and major?
- Are there any aspects of this role that you feel wouldn't be a good match for you?
Technical Solutions Engineer
I applied online with my resume. HR was fast and reached out in 2 days to set up a phone screen and two assessments. One was behavioral/personality, and the other was a 4-hour coding and math test. The phone screen was supposed to be short (15-30 min) but went for about 40 min with someone in the role. They explained the job and asked some basic questions about me. I took the personality test right away and the technical test after the phone screen, although I had to schedule it before the phone screen. I got rejected about a week after the technical test.
- Do you plan on attending graduate school soon?
Technical Solutions Engineer
The interview process really cares about who you are as a person and how you work with others. They are looking for people who are really motivated, positive, and excited to learn and get better. They don't expect you to know everything technically already, they're more focused on your potential, your drive, and if you can adapt. They're cool with teaching you stuff even if you don't have coding experience. The main thing is to show you have initiative, a solid work ethic, and can do well as part of a team.
