First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Environment Canada.
Software Developer
The interview process had two parts. First, an interview with two interviewers, where they asked standard behavioral questions and basic OOP concepts. Then, a take-home exam where I had to build a small app in any language, focusing on good programming practices.
- Can you explain polymorphism and why it's important in certain situations?
Software Developer
I applied through the U of T PEY portal and got an interview about a week later. There were 3 interviewers and they asked the usual stuff like 'tell me about yourself' and your strengths/weaknesses. Then, the second part had questions about agile development, SQL, HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, and a bit of Java and C, which weren't too hard.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Software Engineer
The interview process was super clear and organized, which made me feel valued. The interviewer was clearly prepared and asked questions that were actually relevant to my skills. They explained the expectations and what would happen next really well. They also seemed to check if I'd be a good fit for the company culture, which I appreciated. I got feedback after the interview that was helpful for knowing my strengths and where I could improve. Overall, it was a positive and respectful experience that made me more interested in the job.
- Can you explain Java inheritance?
- What are some examples of polymorphism in Java?
