Sales Director
This was a long process, over a month. It involved a CEO and CFO panel interview, followed by individual interviews with team members. There was also an intelligence test, a personality test, and reference checks. Some red flags were present from the start, like the CEO not being available on camera and seeming disengaged, and the team expressing a need for improvement. They also hired sales positions before hiring the sales director, which seemed like putting the cart before the horse. I suspect other areas of the company might have similar issues.
- What would be your initial actions upon starting the role?
Software Engineer
The interview process is VERY thorough and can take 2-4 weeks depending on your schedule and theirs. Some may see this as a negative, but it's meant to weed out those not qualified skill-wise or work ethic-wise. Working for any MSP is demanding, and they're upfront about it; any other MSP lying about this is just flat out lying. The trade-off is an accelerated IT career track where you learn many solutions quickly. Given the job's demands and stress, it's vital to have colleagues who care about the work and clients, making you feel like you're with friends, not just clock-watchers. The culture seems tight-knit, and people want to be there – it's like an "IT Family," which is hard to find. The CEO and employees are savvy and friendly. Offices are nice with a lake view. I declined because the timing wasn't right due to outside IT clients, and they don't allow outside work. This is a downside, but their policy. Benefits include good pay and rapid internal promotions for deserving individuals. I might work for them later when timing is better.

IT Engineer
So, I spoke with a recruiter from YJT Solutions, but beyond that, the interview process felt pretty impersonal. First, I had to do a couple of online tests from Wonderlic. One was a timed test with a bunch of questions, and the other had some psychological-leaning questions. Then, I had an in-person interview scheduled with 2-3 people. But before that, there were more online tests, similar to the first ones, taking about 45 minutes. This role was for the IT Engineer Residency program, which is basically for new grads. The person who was supposed to interview me couldn't make it last minute, so someone else stepped in. Honestly, he didn't seem super prepared and mentioned he couldn't recall a lot of the standard questions he was supposed to ask. Some of the questions felt like they were for more senior engineers, not entry-level. For example, he asked about a 169. IP address, which I never covered in my schooling, and asked if I knew about IP Helper, admitting most people don't. I drew a network topology I designed for a class, and he asked questions about it that were outside the scope of the assignment, like how a data center fails over to a backup, which I'm not sure is expected for an entry-level job. He also asked why I'd create subnets, and while my answer was correct, it wasn't what he was looking for. So, the interviewer wasn't the best fit. His negative feedback ended the interview. From what I saw, the place could use some attention to detail, with burnt-out lightbulbs and boxes stacked up visible through a window. It didn't feel like they valued their image. They also didn't ask anything to gauge my character or passion for IT, which I think is important because you can teach skills, but not character or passion.

Infrastructure Engineer
I was approached on Linked-In for a role. I told them I am looking to move on from my current job and have limited time to speak. Since I'm employed and very busy, I had to plan ahead for any calls. The recruiter missed 3 scheduled calls for the initial company introduction. Because of this, I decided the company wasn't for me. If they can't get the right personnel for the first contact or stick to a schedule, I can't rely on them for my future.
