First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Energy Exemplar.
QA Engineer
The interview process was misleading and unclear. They didn't communicate anything clearly, and you had to constantly ping them for updates. Referrals seemed to be prioritized, or else you'd be left waiting. It also seems they only hire from IITs and NITs, so don't bother applying if you're not from there, as you'll just be kept as a backup.
- Can you explain OOPS concepts?
- Do you have experience with ML?
- How comfortable are you with SQL?
Energy Market Analyst
So, the interview started with this online aptitude test, like 50 questions in 15 mins, super tough if you don't prep. Luckily I did some practice, so I passed. Then there was a technical interview with the team leads, lasted about an hour. They asked about energy markets, market modeling, and dealing with clients. I felt pretty good about that one, like I nailed it. About a week later, they said the technical round went well and invited me to a third round with the sales team. This one was more about understanding the market and what the job entails. That seemed to go well too, in my opinion. After the last round though, it went totally silent from HR for like two weeks. I emailed, no reply. Sent another reminder, and then finally got a generic rejection email. I asked for feedback and they said they needed someone with more energy market and customer handling experience. Which was weird because those things came up in earlier rounds, they could have seen that on my resume. Honestly, the whole thing could have been handled better. The communication blackout and the reason for rejection just felt like they didn't evaluate candidates properly. A clearer process would have saved everyone time.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain your knowledge of Energy markets?
- Could you elaborate on your understanding of Energy markets?
Software Engineer
The interview process started with an online test, which had multiple-choice questions and DSA problems, lasting 2 hours on DoSelect. This was followed by an aptitude test, done with pen and paper in 30 mins, covering various math topics like Work & Time, Ratio & Proportion, etc. Then there were four rounds of in-person technical interviews, each about 45 minutes long. These technical rounds involved discussing my background, diving deep into my internship and personal projects (covering architecture, data flow, code, optimization, and JS methods), and solving DSA problems (like array flattening, finding sums closest to a target, rotating linked lists, and finding loop points). Core subjects like OOPs, DBMS, and CN (TCP vs UDP, OSI layers) were also discussed. The final round was an HR interview, lasting 30 minutes, where they asked standard questions about myself, my background, family, and college experience.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Can you explain the working and implementation of Blockchain Technology, as it's mentioned on your resume?
- Given two relations, Customers and Orders, could you write a SQL query to find all customers who haven't placed an order in the last three months?
Director
I was called for an in-person interview without any remote meetings first. The first interview was with the Director, and it went well. The second interview was with a VP, who had a hostile attitude and seemed to think they were doing me a favor. I was there for about two hours total. After following up, I eventually received an email with no feedback at all, which I found unprofessional. It's frustrating when you invest time and travel for an interview, and they don't provide constructive feedback, especially when the VP seemed to be micromanaging and had prejudices, yet still called me in. When I asked for specific feedback, I received no response. It feels like a 'don't care once the interview is over' culture.
- Could you describe how you would collaborate with the engineering team?
