First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Empire State Realty Trust.
HR Generalist
The interview process was very simple. I've been at the company for over a year, and the hiring manager's personality is exactly the same as it is in day-to-day work, which is great. What you see is what you get from the very beginning.
- Can you share an example of an employee relations incident you dealt with in your career and how you handled it?
Administrative
I wouldn't suggest this company because their interview process might give you a taste of what the company and its culture are like. There were many rounds, follow-ups, and months of interviews, only to end up being mostly ghosted and then getting a "we hired someone else" response. It seems like the team lacks direction, making you wonder what daily operations are like there.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join ESRT?
Intern
The interview process included three rounds. First, I spoke with HR. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager. Finally, I met with the SVP. All of these interviews were conducted over Zoom. It wasn't super technical, more like a vibe check.
- What makes you want to join this company?
Account Manager
Got contacted by HR after a few days, and they set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager then set up an interview for the following week. It seemed to go well, and when I asked if she had any concerns, she said no, and mentioned things went well and I should 'expect' a call soon since they wanted to move quickly. After a couple of weeks, I followed up and was told they'd get back to me soon but were running a bit behind. Then I got ghosted. I sent several more emails over two months, and even after a good interview with positive feedback, I think the hiring manager or HR could have at least said the position was filled or something. Not a single response after 3-4 emails over two months is unacceptable, especially after I passed on other offers due to the vision they laid out.
- What makes you the best fit for this position?
- Do you prefer to be self-driven or require direction to start a project?
- How do you manage relationships with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds?
