First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Empire Education Group.
Administrative Specialist
She started by asking how familiar I am with Empire and we briefly talked about its history. Then, we discussed my availability, like if I can work certain times, and how I am with planning and organization.
- In what ways does your previous experience align with the requirements of this role?
Executive Director
I interviewed for Empire twice, at two different locations for Executive Director and Assistant Director. The process was the same: a phone screening with HR, then meeting with the RD or ED. In both cases, they made it seem like I was a candidate, but then hired internally. That process needs to change. It's misleading not to identify internal candidates first, before taking up someone's time and effort. I might apply again, though.
- How would you approach students whose attendance is dropping?
Cosmetology Educator
I applied online and a few days later HR contacted me to set up a phone interview. The HR person was nice and flexible with the timing. After the 20-minute phone interview, I was told either the director or HR would be in touch. The very next day, the director called and invited me for an in-person interview the following week. Upon arriving at the school, I had to complete an application before meeting with the director. The interview itself was good. They gave me a tour and introduced me to other educators. Then came a technical interview where I had to perform a haircut on a mannequin of my choice, with the director and another educator observing, presumably to gauge my teaching ability.
- Tell me about a time you worked with someone you didn't get along with and how you managed it.
- What strategies would you use to maintain student engagement in your classes?
- Considering the areas you identified as weaker, how would you approach teaching them with the same enthusiasm you bring to your strengths?
Career Planning Specialist
It took over a month for anyone to contact me after I applied. When I went for my interview, I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes past my scheduled time to meet with the director. She seemed nice enough but was really distracted. She mentioned she didn't like the questions on her sheet and decided to ask her own questions instead. She didn't seem very focused or interested in learning about me and my skills. I never received a call back or even a rejection email.
- Do you have a family?
