First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Emerson College.
Operations Assistant
It's a pretty simple interview process. If you get a referral from someone currently working as an assistant there, you've got a good shot. Just be ready for the usual questions about how you handle work and disagreements.
- What makes you want to join this company?
- Can you describe your approach to work?
- How do you handle conflict situations?
Desktop Support Technician
We had a pre-screen call, then a Zoom interview with the Director of Technology, and then a panel interview with the existing staff, CIO, and head of the department, which lasted about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Can you explain your choice of a Media Studies degree?
- Given your degree was in 2011, how do you feel about discussing it now?
Membership Coordinator
I interviewed for a role at Emerson College's radio station WERS. It started with a phone interview, then a one on one with my potential boss, and finally a panel interview. There weren't any technical questions, they just wanted to get to know me and my experiences better. It really felt like they were more interested in getting a good feel for me than testing my knowledge. Everyone was really polite and cordial, from the GM to the student interns, it was a pleasure talking with them.
- Are you able to take ownership of a project and work independently?
- Can you delegate tasks and collaborate effectively with students?
- Do you have any ideas for increasing membership?
Assistant Professor
The interview process involved an initial Zoom call, followed by an on-campus visit. During the visit, I was required to give a research talk and a teaching demonstration. Additionally, I had back-to-back meetings with groups of typically three faculty members between the talks.
- Can you tell us about your research interests and your future research directions?
- Please share your philosophy on teaching and your prior teaching experiences.
- How do you envision contributing to service activities, such as committees, within the department and university?
