Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Emergent Software.
Software Engineer
The process began with an initial application that included some essay questions. After that, I took a Fisher Price IQ/SAT test via TestGorilla. This was followed by a phone screening and a take-home project. The final interview was a bit of a letdown with a low-ball offer. They seem to be looking for people willing to accept below-market pay for remote work, which feels like drinking the kool-aid.
- How many days can 3 people work if Sally and Mary dislike each other?
Software Engineer
So the interview process was pretty much what they had on their website. First, you send in your application. Then, there's an online assessment that includes a short coding test and some short answer questions about soft skills, technical stuff, and how you solve problems. After that, a recruiter gives you a quick call to see if you're still interested and if your expectations match. Next, you get a take-home coding exercise where they give you a Github repo with instructions for a small project. Finally, there's a technical interview where they usually go over your past experiences and ask technical questions, and then you discuss the at-home coding exercise you did.
- Could you choose a project, any size, and tell me its objective, and I'll ask a lot of follow-up questions about it?
Software Engineer
The interview process was great. I got to learn about different roles at the company. It kicked off with a fun and thought-provoking quiz, kind of like a mini-IQ test. Then, I had a coding assessment that covered a lot of skills relevant today. The last interview involved meeting two awesome developers who were friendly and discussed my project, along with the kinds of projects and tools they use at Emergent Software.
- What modifications would you make to your coding challenge project if it were to be implemented in a production setting?
