Behavioral Technical Presentation

It started with a really long and detailed conversation with an internal recruiter who asked some great questions and laid out the whole hiring process. After that, I took an aptitude test which felt spot-on for the role, unlike some other IQ-style tests I've encountered. Then came two rounds where I did simulated project work, pretending the Emergent team members were clients. Throughout all this, there were many technical questions to check my knowledge. It was a tough interview process, but honestly, it was pretty fun and gave me a lot of space to show what I can do and my approach. By the end, I felt like Emergent truly got what I'd add to the team and how I'd fit into the company culture.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

This interview process was more challenging than I anticipated, but in a positive way. Having spent most of my career at Microsoft and interviewed over 500 people, I've seen firsthand how candidates often reach the hiring manager without adequate vetting or preparation for the role. Emergent's interview structure effectively prevents this. While Emergent Software's interview process is demanding, it's a definite advantage. If you're aiming for a product management position, I highly recommend studying Agile project management. It's crucial for the role and the interview itself, and your knowledge will be assessed.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • One notable interview involved a mock-customer scenario where you had to document requirements and capture project details.
  • Following the mock interview, you were tested on your recall of the customer project's details.

Behavioral Technical Coding Presentation Case

The whole interview thing took me eight weeks from applying to getting rejected, and I didn't even get to the take-home part or the final interview. I did spend a few hours on interviews and tests, plus a whole weekend prepping for this "role-playing" gig, and all I got back was a quick two-line email saying thanks for your time. I get that they need to check people out, and yeah, I didn't have the Microsoft tech or eCommerce experience they wanted. But making candidates wait for months and asking them to do presentations and coding on their own time is kinda lazy. The only feedback I got between stages was that I was set up for the next one, until I wasn't. Seriously, make sure this is your absolute dream job before applying, 'cause it's gonna be a long ride no matter what.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Initial skills assessment questions (behavioral, numerical, verbal, and visual logic)
  • Technical assessment questions covering web development, dev ops, databases, and software architecture
  • Recorded interview where you had to act as a client, gather requirements for an eCommerce project
