First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EMCOR Group.
Senior Manager
The interview process was pretty long but they didn't give a lot of details or outline things. I wish they would have kept me updated on what was happening. It was generally easy though, I just felt like I was in the dark. The company doesn't really have an outlined career development plan. Also, make sure to ask about insurance costs because it's pretty expensive.
- Can you share an example of a challenge you've faced and overcome?
Buyer
I was contacted by the HR Staffing Specialist to set up a phone interview. After that, they sent me a link to complete an online application. Then, I had a 1.5-hour in-person interview with four Senior Buyers. The HR person who said they'd introduce themselves didn't show up. I was prepared with extra resumes, dressed professionally, and arrived early. After the interview, I thanked the interviewers and followed up by email. The HR agent then asked about my salary requirements. I responded the same day but never heard back. Despite my follow-up emails and calls weeks later, EMCOR didn't respond, which I found unprofessional. I can only imagine what their internal culture is like if this is how they treat applicants. Candidates put a lot of time into the interview process, and EMCOR's low expectations are disappointing. I know image is important, even if I'm not in Sales or Marketing.
- Tell me about a time you overcame an unexpected problem at a previous job.
Service Technician
We'll start with a phone chat. Then you'll meet with the Service Manager and Foreman, usually over lunch. After that, you'll meet with the Service Manager again, and they'll bring in the Branch Manager. If everything checks out, we'll get you set up with a drug test and start the background check.
- Could you provide an overview of your background and professional history?
- Could you walk us through your previous employment history and provide specific details about each role?
- What are your career aspirations for the next 3, 5, and 10 years?
Administrative Assistant
This was the most unusual interview I've ever experienced. The majority of the time, the interviewer just talked about the company and their own role. The only thing they asked me was what questions I had, and they couldn't even answer most of them. They repeatedly told me I'd need to ask someone else because they didn't even work at that location, but instead worked in another state. Super helpful.
- What questions do you have regarding the company or the role?
