Product Manager
I applied online and heard back a few weeks later about a first round screen with a recruiter. They sent me like 5 emails confirming it but some said phone screen and others said Zoom call which was confusing. The call itself felt weird and not smooth, with lots of silences while the recruiter typed. They didn't seem to know my background at all and asked stuff that was on my resume. The recruiter mentioned they have high turnover, which seems to be true based on other reviews. I got a standard rejection email after this one round.
- Have you worked with engineering teams before?
Product Manager
I chatted with a recruiter who was amazing, seriously one of the best. Then, I had a video call with the Director of Marketing, a UX Designer, and a PM. It turned out the recruiter was leaving, which started to make sense. During the next interview, the Director of Marketing and the Lead UX Designer both introduced themselves as the Interim Director of Product. It felt like there was a leadership gap. The interview was scheduled for an hour, and right after, they asked if I could stay for another hour to interview with the development team. I did, and they seemed like a typical dev team. The final interview was with the CEO, who's really hands-on and drives the product. He was actually the third person to say he was the Interim Director of Product. It seems all product decisions go through him. I asked about his involvement and some negative Glassdoor reviews. He admitted past mistakes but defended the reviews, saying he prioritizes the company's best interest over individuals. He confirmed product decisions will still run through him. I mentioned I look for a CEO who cares about employees as people and lets them do their jobs. After getting through all that, I got a generic email saying I didn't get the job.
- The engineering team asked how comfortable I felt pushing back against decisions dictated from executives if I felt they were the wrong decisions.
Customer Service Supervisor
This was one of the best interview processes I've experienced! They were really responsive and considerate all the way through. The entire process, from submitting my resume online to hearing back, took just over 3 weeks. I started with a phone interview, then moved on to a panel interview, and finished with a direct interview with the CEO. I even got a personal phone call to inform me that I wasn't selected, which is pretty rare and shows how much effort they put into hiring the right people.
- How would you manage your relationship with an internal candidate if they didn't get the job and you did?
IT Manager
There were 3 rounds in total. The first was a phone screen with the supervisor. Then, an in-person meeting with the supervisor and a teammate for the second round. The third round involved meeting with peers and the co-founder. Overall, it was a good experience and communication stayed consistent.
- Can you tell me about your management style?
