Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Elsevier.
Account Manager
The first round was with HR, where they asked about my personal life, like hobbies, how I handle stress, how colleagues would describe me, and why I want to work for Elsevier. The second round was with the Director of Sales. We talked about my experience, and I learned more about the company and the role. It felt more like a relaxed, professional chat than a formal Q&A. The third round was a role-play, which was quite challenging. It seemed simple, but they presented a worst-case scenario where the prospect wasn't interested in Elsevier. They wanted to see how I'd react and manage the meeting, not necessarily to close the deal. The fourth round was a call with another team member, where I learned about the team, culture, and daily tasks.
- How do you build strong customer relationships to foster a solid business connection?
Account Manager
Had an HR phone chat for about 30 minutes. Then a video call with the global sales director for about an hour where they asked about my past work experience and explained the role. After that, a 30-minute chat with the regional sales director. This last one didn't dive too deep into past experience but asked other questions, like about system tools.
- How do you go about finding and connecting with new customers?
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
- Please tell us more about this specific role.
Account Manager
I found the job on LinkedIn and got contacted by HR after a couple of days. They sent me a form to fill out with some questions, including one about a business case. After that, I had an hour-long in-person interview.
- Could you tell me about your previous experience and any notable achievements?
- What accomplishments are you most proud of from your past roles?
