First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Elkus Manfredi Architects.
Project Manager
It was a pretty standard interview process. I met with a few of the current employees at their office. It would've been better to meet with someone from the specific division I was applying to, as teams and specialties can really differ.
- Would you be able to help set up for early morning presentations, like arranging chairs?
- Would my role involve participating in those early morning presentations?
Designer
I was contacted via email for an interview. The people I met were really nice. It's important to figure out who the hiring manager is. The design principal wasn't there for my interview. It seemed like they were more interested in candidates who could handle construction documents rather than purely design work. Overall, I had a good impression of this firm.
- Can you clarify who is the decision maker and what skills are they seeking?
- Are you looking for someone who can do construction documents more than design?
Architect
It wasn't too intense, and it took about two weeks from the initial email to the interview itself. I spoke with three people who were generally very nice. We talked about my portfolio, and they seemed interested in my design intentions. The interview lasted around an hour, and then I got a tour of the office. Things went well, but they didn't end up offering me a position because they didn't have any openings for my role at the time.
- What do you know about our firm and our projects, and how do you think your skills align with our office's objectives given our current projects?
- How do you see your contributions fitting into our office's goals in relation to our projects?
Intern
It was a formal panel interview with several senior designers. It could feel a bit intimidating, but the team was really nice. The office is great, so dress formally and make sure to bring a printed portfolio with you.
- Could you present your portfolio to us?
- Can you elaborate on the process behind your work?
