I had a few email exchanges with the hiring manager, then a phone interview, and finally an on-campus interview. The college was really communicative and friendly throughout the process, which I enjoyed.

The interview process wasn't too long, and it felt thorough but not like an interrogation. The questions mostly touched on organizational skills, how you'd interact with other assistants, senior staff, and patrons, your work ethic, and integrity. They expected some basic familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System, but it wasn't a hard requirement. The most crucial part was showing that your personality would fit in well.
