I applied directly on their site because I checked every box on their job description, and actually bring 5 years experience vs. the 2-3 requested. I quickly (within 2 days) was invited to interview. The recruiter asked me to tell a bit about myself and experience as it relates to the position. The interview was conversational. The recruiter was nice. Two days later I got the basic canned email saying "unfortunately [for you] we're considering other candidates." It was a decent experience overall.

So I did two interviews, both were pretty chill conversations. First up was the hiring manager, and we mostly talked about Elixir Technologies and where it's headed. They had a really solid vision for the product and engineering, which was cool to see. Then I chatted with two other folks from the team, and it was the same kind of vibe. The questions were just normal, nothing too tricky or technical. It was a good experience, felt pretty engaging. The only bummer was, I never heard back from the recruiter after everything was done. That's kind of a big miss, you know? Like, no matter what, people deserve to know where they stand. I get that recruiters are swamped, but a quick update would've been nice. The interviews themselves and the people were great, but the silence afterwards really soured it.

This was my worst interview experience. I felt like they decided in the first couple minutes I wasn't a good fit. Instead of being professional, one person went off camera, leaned back, got too close to the camera and rubbed his face, interrupted me, and rushed me to finish. The other person asked a few questions, gave no feedback to my questions, and seemed annoyed. I emailed asking to withdraw my application because I wouldn't want to work for them.

It was a standard C++ focused interview. You should definitely prepare programming basics, especially C++, pointers, COM, ATL, and the MFC Document/View architecture. The process kicked off with a C++ written test covering basic OOP and data structures. This was followed by a technical interview with three interviewers asking about C++, assembly, and data structures. Lastly, there was an HR interview for salary talks.
