First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Eliot Community Human Services.
Residential Counselor
I applied online and got a phone call within two weeks. Then I came in for an interview. The manager interviewed me for 45 minutes. At the end, she made me take a test to see if I was smart enough to take the actual MAP testing exam so I could pass meds when I start working. The only thing I did not like that she did was that she called my references in front of me. I would have rather the interviewing manager to call my references in private; that would have been much more professional. My references said very nice things about me, and then she had the nerve to ask me if I coached my references to speak so highly of me. She then asked if my references were my family members. I did not like her; her first impression was horrible.

- How do you handle emergency situations?
Healthcare Recruiter
The interview process started with a phone screening, followed by an on-site interview. One of the first issues was that both the recruiter and the manager were 20 minutes late to the interview without any explanation or apology. We then had a meeting that was shorter than scheduled, and they ended it by saying they had another meeting to attend, which seemed unprofessional given they were already late. Considering the interview was only 30 minutes long and their apparent time management issues, it could have easily been conducted virtually to save everyone time. Overall, it was an unprofessional experience, but I hope it improves for future candidates.
- What prompts your decision to leave your current job?
Case Manager
Applied online, had a phone screen, then an in-person interview with the direct supervisor. Had to do a background check and wait for results before getting an offer. Didn't get much info about the job during the interviews. Salary was based on experience, but no specific figure was given. Wasn't told about working shifts alone until after I was hired. A tour suggested I'd have staff with me, but that wasn't the case.
- Describe how you'd manage a tough client situation.
Care Worker
The interview process was pretty easy. First, we had a group interview where they basically went over the job description and what we'd be doing in our roles. After they made some phone calls to candidates who qualified, there was a second interview. During that one, they talked about salary and the specific job duties in detail. After all that, there's a 3-week orientation.
- What's your approach to handling an angry teen who won't get up for class each day?
