The interview process at Macdermid in San Jose/Fremont had 3 stages: first a recruiter screen, then a hiring manager screen, and finally a panel interview onsite. The interviews themselves were reasonable, but there were long waits of 2-4 weeks between stages and before getting feedback after the final interview. I interviewed last year and got ghosted after my final round. This time they told me they were offering the job to someone else, then that person declined, and then they planned to repost the same job at a lower salary. It felt like a waste of time.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The recruiter mentioned it would be two interviews and a decision, but it ended up being three rounds, plus some negotiations and an offer. The first interview was with the hiring manager about the current state of projects. The second was with a Senior IT colleague, discussing the technology and team setup, though connection issues meant he did most of the talking. The final interview was with a Director who seemed to have already made up his mind. That's where I asked my questions, made my case, and delivered my closing statements.

The interview process for the Chemist position in New Hudson, Michigan was really horrible. The Talent Acquisition Specialist rescheduled the interview half an hour before it was supposed to start due to a meeting. On the day of the rescheduled interview, which was a zoom meeting, she was 5 minutes late and said her camera was not working, so she couldn't turn on her video. It felt like talking to a blank screen since I had my video on. She asked if I knew anything about the company, and I confidently answered with details I had researched. However, when I asked her a question about the company, she couldn't answer and said she'd get back to me. She completely ghosted me and never provided an update, even after I sent a thank you note and followed up. It was an unprofessional and cold experience, and I'm glad I didn't get an update or have another round.

The recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn for a role they called “strategic.” They immediately started negotiating compensation aggressively. The offer was much lower than the market rate and didn’t match the seniority needed. I said no, but they contacted me again to see if they could increase it. It was strange and off-putting that they were so pushy about a low offer right away.
