& Process

We had three video calls initially and then an in-person interview, making it four rounds in total. The first round was with HR, the second with the hiring manager, the third with the department manager, and the fourth round involved presenting a PowerPoint of my previous work to the team.

So first, there was a recruiter phone screening, then a 1:1 with the hiring manager, then a technical screening, and then a full round of interviews. I had to keep chasing the recruiter for updates, and he'd only call back after I emailed. That felt off. Then, the person in the 1:1 with the hiring manager wasn't the same person introduced as the hiring manager in the full round. Makes you wonder if they even know their own org chart. Also, during the interview, the HR said I might be a better fit for a lower level since I don't have streaming data experience, but then they mentioned they were hiring for multiple levels, so it could work. I was okay with that. After the full round, I had to email again for an update, and about 5 days later, he said they went with someone else. But the job is still up months later and they said they had multiple openings, so that's clearly not true. I wouldn't bother with this company. My guess is they're trying to look good pre-IPO by listing a bunch of jobs they don't intend to fill.

The interviewer joined and talked about the role for about 8 minutes, like they were reading from a script. The whole interview was technical, and no behavioral questions were asked, even though it was for a Program Management position. They repeated the same basic question multiple times. Around the 28-minute mark, they asked if I had any questions, but then cut me off at the 30 minutes and left the interview. It felt kind of rude, with no smiles or attempts to make me feel comfortable. Maybe they were just having a rough day.

After that, there was a 1:1 technical interview with a team member that was half discussion and half really simple coding (no complex algorithms, AI was allowed, etc.). The main event was the onsite interview, which was 4.5 hours long. It included four 1:1s with the team: one for system design, two behavioral interviews, one coding interview, and a final one with the hiring manager. The coding interview was kinda weird; about half coding, I was told to bring my own laptop for a familiar setup, but we ended up using an online editor with no compile function. Finished everything on time, got minimal feedback like "yeah this works". The interview went way over schedule (more than an hour late), and one of the interviewers totally ghosted.
