First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Elder-Beerman Stores.
Seasonal Associate
Applied online, then came in. They looked at my resume. Asked about my interests, customer service skills, and availability. I asked about the dress code and pay. Got hired on the spot!
- Do you have any retail experience or customer service experience?
Sales Associate
First, I went to the store and completed the application on a computer. After that, I took a personality assessment. Since they were holding open interviews when I applied, I had an interview right away. Then, I had a 30-minute chat with the HR manager and got hired on the spot. It's pretty easy to get a job there if you can communicate well, look professional, and have a good personality.
- Which job would you like best?
- What makes you want to work in retail?
- What's your availability like?
Warehouse Associate
It was a chill interview where they asked about my past work experience and some "what if" type questions. We also talked about the work hours, when I'm free to work, and the different shifts that are open, plus any extra pay for different shifts.
- Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a colleague.
Manager Trainee
I responded to a newspaper ad. The interviewer was very pleasant and knowledgeable. They inquired about my prior work history and educational background. Because I was seeking an entry-level management position with a local company, the interviewer was very professional and supportive.
- What motivates your desire to enter management?
