I got an email to set up the interview, and then got confirmation texts and emails. I spent about an hour on the phone with the first recruiter from talent acquisition. They were really nice, kind, and caring. They gave me plenty of chances to ask questions about what they were looking for.

The company uses Meraki, Cisco Umbrella, and Azure for their environment. Most other apps are web-based or cloud-hosted. They need someone who can script in Python, as they are moving towards Secure Connect in Meraki and Umbrella. I was told to ask Chris Avery (director/manager) about his management style and expectations, as those can change. He's a bit of a micromanager and likes to control things; he can get aggressive. He apparently hates it if you use your calendar for tasks or block out personal time. I guess I should have asked about that stuff since I've had good managers before. The hiring is through a contract company called techhuman. The salary was about $115k.

The interview experience was unprofessional and gave me a clear sense of their culture, which made me want to leave. It's understandable why there's high turnover. When someone is interviewing you, it's disrespectful to be texting on your phone and typing on your computer.

I applied online and the recruiter got in touch for a phone screen pretty quickly, within 5 business days. It took over 4 weeks to get a virtual meeting with the hiring manager, which was a great chat. I was told an in-person meeting would be set up by the end of that week. A week later, I followed up with the hiring manager via email but got no response. Two weeks after that, I emailed again and they replied that they had selected another candidate. Four days later, the recruiter kindly offered to refer me to three agency recruiters.
