Edwards Air Force Base Interview Questions
& Process

First, there was a phone call interview with the hiring manager and two other flight chiefs. About a month later, I had a second interview where I toured the facility and met my interviewees in person. This also included meeting employees and interns working on the base. Lastly, a final interview involving several questions and my own 5-min presentation.

I was contacted through my info on the American Statistical Association website. They covered my flight and rental car expenses, and I was reimbursed for the hotel. The interview involved sitting down with statisticians at the Flight Test Center, discussing my background and aspirations. It was a very friendly meeting, and we even shared lunch on the base. I felt I made a good impression and received a conditional offer. Since it's a government position, the subsequent steps were the background check and applying for security clearance. Later, the hiring manager informed me I couldn't be hired due to security issues. This was upsetting, so I checked with the security staff, who confirmed there were no security concerns and that the hiring manager had misled me, stating they'd found someone with more experience.

I applied through the Edwards AFB website and after about three weeks, I got an email to schedule an interview. It was a Zoom interview with three people, and they were all really nice. The interview began with a presentation about Edwards AFB and the job. Then, they asked about five questions, mostly behavioral ones that needed the STAR format. I was told I'd hear back by the next week, but after a week with no response, I found out about two weeks after the interview from HR that I got the job. The HR person was surprised I hadn't heard, as they'd approved my offer the Monday after the interview. So, if you don't hear back in a week, it doesn't necessarily mean you didn't get the job; HR can be busy, causing delays.

I met them at a career fair at my college. They called me for a phone interview about a month later. Then, they invited me for a day-long visit to Edwards. Most of the day was spent showing me around and introducing me to the engineers. There was also a one-hour interview. It was a classic behavioral interview.
