First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Edison Electric Institute.
Intern
Started with a screening chat with HR, asking basic stuff about my background. Then, I had a chat with the Hiring Manager for the team, where we talked about my experience, why I wanted to intern here, and if I saw myself staying with the company after grad school.

The interview process was quite long. It was a position they were still in the processes of formulating, however it took 5 months to get through the whole process. There was an initial interview which took 3 1/2 hours - I met with almost the whole team I would be working with which I thought was good. There was a second interview between my to-be direct supervisor and I and another team member. Then after all that there was a third, informal lunch interview.
- How will your existing skills translate to our industry?
Coordinator
I got in touch with the company through a staffing agency. The first interview involved meeting four different people consecutively, with each meeting lasting at least 30 minutes. I was then invited back for a second interview, where I met three new people. For the third interview, I was asked to complete some tests, including basic Microsoft skills and typing speed. After passing these computer-based assessments, the Director of HR extended a job offer on the spot.
- Can you describe a challenge you faced in your previous role and explain how you overcame it?
Senior Content Strategist
So, it was a typical interview setup – I had a phone call screening. It was the only interview I did. I chatted with an HR person for about 20-30 minutes. What was weird is I never heard back from her, not even a word, not even to say that, after they learned more about me during the interview, I wasn't being considered anymore. It's really baffling and honestly quite rude. It seems like she was, unfortunately, like so many other hiring managers and HR folks out there who just ghost you after an in-person interview. It’s like they intentionally forget you, even though you spent time discussing personal stuff at their request. It’s a bit like saying that letting them consider you was a bother, like you forced your way into their day and wasted their time. It makes you wonder how companies that treat potential hires like this treat their actual employees. I can’t even imagine being around people like that constantly.
- What are some standard questions typically asked during a phone screening?
