First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EControls.
PCB Designer
I had a phone chat with the hiring manager, and I think I nailed all the questions they asked. I was pretty friendly during the interview, too. But, in the end, I didn't get an offer because the manager mentioned something about a 'culture problem,' which was weird because we only spoke briefly on the phone and didn't meet in person. The interviewer struck me as really withdrawn and timid, so maybe my being friendly seemed a bit much for them.
- How familiar are you with high-speed routing signals?
IT Systems Administrator
The hiring process moved really fast. I applied on Monday and got a call for an interview that same day. The first interview was on Tuesday, and then I went for an in-person interview on Thursday. I got to see the facility and meet a lot of people. The buildings were nice, but the way they handle IT tasks seemed outdated. They use WSUS instead of SCCM and manually update about 400 servers on weekends, which takes away from family time. I asked why this wasn't automated, and the response wasn't great. The role also involves sharing all IT duties, including Help Desk, Desktop Support, System Admin, and some networking. After what I heard and saw, I decided I wouldn't want to work there, regardless of pay. It seems like taking on all these roles prevents sys admins from improving the environment or researching new ideas. The staff I met were polite, though.
- How would you feel about working for a company like this?
- Would you be okay with performing duties beyond system administration, such as help desk and desktop support?
Electrical Engineer Intern
The process went really smoothly. Everyone was nice, and we got to chat with engineers from different areas. They showed us around the facilities. There weren't many technical questions, it was mostly about our schooling and what we'd done before.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience?
Embedded Software Engineer
I had a few hours of chill interviews with some of the engineers and an HR person. It felt pretty relaxed and I felt like I learned a lot about the company and enjoyed chatting with the people I might end up working with during the internship.
- If half of our manufacturing plant was destroyed, what would be the first course of action?
