First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Eckerd College.
Resident Assistant
Make sure you dress nice because it shows them that you are serious about your interview, they pay attention to this. Be honest, confident, and authentically you. Interviewers can be a little hard to read, but that doesn't mean you aren't making a good impression.
- In which dorm would you be most successful?
Assistant Director of Alumni Relations
The first step was a phone call with the director to screen applicants. They asked about my salary expectations. I stated my desired amount, and they gave me their range but didn't specify where I'd fall within it based on my resume. I mentioned the amount was lower than I expected, and they questioned whether to continue the interview. We proceeded with the interview anyway, for practice. The job was reposted about a month and a half later, so I contacted the hiring manager to inquire about changes to the position. I received a brief, curt voicemail stating I wasn't selected to proceed previously and wouldn't be this time.
- Can you tell me about the events you've worked on?
Enrollment Manager
This is my second role at Eckerd; I was moved internally when my old department's funding was cut. Eckerd really tries to avoid layoffs during tough economic times. When I interviewed for my first position 8 years ago, it was over the phone because I was living out-of-state. I don't remember anything particularly hard about the interview, just that there were several people on the conference call who later had to all agree I was the best candidate for the job.
- Given your qualifications, why are you interested in this role?
Career Services Advisor
The interview process was long, but I was kept informed throughout the entire process. The first two rounds consisted of skype interviews (lasting from thirty minutes to an hour) and the last stage was an on-campus interview that lasted close to three hours.
- What do you value in a work environment?
- Given sample resume and cover letters, what edits/feedback suggestions would you provide on the spot?
- Can you share an instance where you had to deliver difficult feedback to a student?
