Program Manager Intern
I had two virtual interviews back-to-back, each lasting 45 minutes. The interviewers were really nice and made me feel comfortable, so the conversation flowed easily. They answered all my questions, and the whole process was very efficient.
- Could you share an accomplishment from your resume that you're particularly proud of?
- What motivates your interest in working for eBay?
Program Manager
I applied for the Senior Program Manager position via employee referral and got a call from the recruiter. The recruiter did a quick phone screen and then said the hiring manager was interested and wanted to meet for an informal lunch to chat about the role. Since it was a new position, the exact duties were still being worked out. At the lunch, I met the hiring manager and a potential peer. It was casual and friendly, not like a typical interview, but they did ask some basic questions. We talked about the job, team needs, current challenges, and future growth plans. I felt really good about the opportunity to join a rapidly growing company that's a leader in its field with smart people and impactful work. After that, I had formal in-person interviews over two days with six people from the cross-functional team I'd be collaborating with. They were all well-prepared and shared insights about working at eBay. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer because they chose an internal candidate, but I'd still consider other roles there.
- Can you share an instance where you had to re-prioritize multiple projects?
- Describe a situation where you had to say no to someone and explain how you handled it.
Program Manager
The initial recruiter call involved feedback about a perceived lack of clear guidance, which seems to be a common expectation nowadays from recruiters and hiring teams. Initially, I was told an authentication background wasn't necessary for the role. However, after not getting an offer, the reason given was a lack of authentication expertise, which was a significant time sink. My advice when talking to recruiters is to ask upfront about any specific domain requirements to make sure you're a good fit and avoid wasting your time. The hiring manager's discussion was mainly about standard questions concerning the job responsibilities. The director's conversation covered basic questions about cultural alignment, my work history, and what motivates me. Nothing out of the ordinary.
- Can you share an instance where you had to do X?
- What was the last thing you bought on eBay?
