First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Eastern Illinois University.
Graduate Assistant
It was a pretty simple process. I talked with the board members, and they told me about the department and each other. Then, they asked me some questions. The vibe was super chill, and they even showed me around the college.
- Could you tell me about your hobbies outside of your main area of study?
Lecturer
The department chair looked at my CV and then immediately told me that I wasn't a good match for the job. I told them that my degree wasn't exactly in the area they wanted, but it was in a related field. The department chair seemed annoyed and impatient during our chat. I only spoke with the department chair, not with any search committee members.
- Can you tell me about your teaching experience in this specific area?
IT Infrastructure Engineer
I applied in November 2024 and got an invitation for a 30-minute panel interview with an IT Manager, a System Administrator, and a programmer. I felt I did well, but haven't heard back from the IT Manager who set it up. I followed up with him about the next steps, but still no response.
- Can you tell me about switches and routing?
- Do you have any experience with network-based questions?
- What about questions related to VM deployment?
Catering
The interview process was pretty standard. First, we handled the paperwork, then the interviewer asked me some common questions. They also threw in a few different ones that asked about diversity and what that means to me.
- Can you share an instance when you encountered exceptional customer service?
- Describe a situation where you delivered outstanding customer service.
- How do you define diversity?
